Before No Cost Calls some children ca’t afford to talk with their dad in prison for help with homework.

Some Massachusetts mothers couldn’t talk to their children who are in jail.

Nationally, one third of families with a family member in jail or prison go into debt because of the cost of staying in touch with their loved ones.

Staying in contact with family is one of the most important things for coming home and staying home. Many people simply can’t afford that right now, because phone charges from prison and jail are much higher than ordinary phone charges, profiting corporations and hurting communities across Massachusetts.

The No Cost Calls law changes that, starting December 1, 2023.

In this video, Justice 4 Housing captures the voices of incarcerated men and women who explain why phone calls should be free for families of incarcerated individuals.
